The Effects of Maternal Parenting Behavior and Paternal Parenting Behavior on Media Device Addiction

|
This study examined the effects of maternal parenting behavior and paternal parenting behavior on media device addiction. The study sample was 1177 elementary school third graders (602 boys, 575 girls) who had participated in the tenth wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC). The data were analyzed using Pearson¡¯s correlations and regression analysis with SPSS 23.0. The results are as follows. First, maternal parenting behavior and paternal parenting behavior had a significant correlation on children¡¯s media device addiction. Second, maternal parenting behavior and paternal parenting behavior are predict variables for children¡¯s media device addiction. These results add to a better understanding of the mechanism linking maternal parenting behavior and paternal parenting behavior on media device addiction. These findings can serve as an important contribution to future research and practices for reducing children¡¯s media device addiction.
